Straight from the horse’s mouth

其實這句話的根源是從跑馬場的賭注圈開始來的。20世紀初當跑馬在美國成為一個盛行的賭注運動時,下賭的人常常希望能拿到一些內幕消息看看哪一匹馬的狀況最佳,跑贏的機率最大,因此照顧馬匹的人或與馬匹親近的人都是可靠的消息來源,後來在1913年有一位記者使用了一句話而使的這句諺語開始流行起來:

“I got a tip yesterday, and if it wasn’t straight from the horse’s mouth it was jolly well the next thing to it.”

「我昨天收到的小道消息若不是親自從馬的嘴巴裡講出來的就是非常接近而可靠的來源。」

 

於是「從馬的嘴巴裡講出來的」就成了非常可靠的來源了。這樣的解釋你還可以接受嗎??(笑)
